Default Junk Shift Kit in my TH2004R

Don't know the brand but the shift kit that is currently in my 84 Calais' TH2004R that I bought from a friend doesn't let you shift into 4th until you go over 60mph making it unfriendly for gas mileage and cruising. Also, the car won't shift into 3rd until 45mph. I thought it was the cable that needed to be adjusted but it's the damn shift kit that was put in... does anyone know what might be causing this????

If I ever find out the brand I will post it, other than that the trans would be good for drag racing since it does have hard shifts, I can't complain on that end, it's just not practical for daily driving.

I don't have a trans like that but Have you checked to see if the vacuum hose to the vacuum modulator is hooked up. I've heard of trans on equipment that would do that becasuse they didn't want lug the engine. A quick call to Ammco should help. With business so slow take it to them for a free check and then do the work your self.

There is no vacuum modulator on a TH2004R, turns out its just an improperly installed shift kit. People think they can just pop one of these in... well to do it right there are a few orifices that need to be opened up a little in the valve body as well as a few other recommendations I won't go into at the moment... I have an OZ core I am going to have built up, this trans is just a temporary solution.

I readjusted the TV cable and it helped a little, the trans will be coming out this winter anyways...
