    Default Cutlass Project

Well, I've been lurking for a while. I'm a member over at gbodyforum, but I thought i'd share my build here. This project has been going for quite some time now. A few cars have gone together to make one, well, its close to being one anyway. My first car, and this car will be an 81 cutlass supreme. My original car was a 3.8 hard top, no option, bench seat granny car. Bought it in 2001 with 35000 miles on it when i was 17. Well needless to say it didn't handle my heavy foot, and I destroyed the 3.8. It sat parked for a while till I was old enough to buy a house and bring it back home and start work. Along the road it has changed a little bit, but I have yet to be able to drive it since I destroyed it in 2002. I'm getting closer, she's almost done with paint. Then the finishing touches and she'll be on the road. No longer will she be a plain jane grandma car. Now she will have buckets, console, power windows, power locks, t tops, 8.5 posi 3.73, and a nice mild olds 403 .030 over.

So after a lot of work on my original hard top I realized I would never be happy without t tops, so I bought a donor.

Well, the t tops leaked, so the floor was trashed.

So almost 2 years ago now, I took it to a guy to do the floor pan work, body work and paint. I'm still waiting, should be close though.

So while the body was out I started work on the frame, suspension, and engine.

I also redid the rear end with a posi unit and some new seals and bearings.

I also switched to the ls1 rear disc brakes.

Is that an older '83 on down frame that didn't come with the mount for a TH2004R?

Motor looks awesome, I see you plan on running Cruise Control :icon14:

The frame is from my 81. This car will kinda be a frankenstein. Lots of parts from many different cars. Most it will be between my original 81 supreme, and the 87 salon t top. I also had an 84 that the 403 was sitting in, the motor is about all that was donated from that car. Then I bought a salvage 86 442. All that was left of it was the rolling chasis and the shell. I bought it for the shell, but it had more hidden surprises than I thought. The good thing was I only spent 550 on it and it still had the 8.5, so I get to use that for my build. The 403 is .030 over, it has 71 350 heads on it, that were built by Joe mondello. I got them from a guy that had them on his drag 350. Then it has a performer rpm intake, hooker super comp, summit mini starter, don't know much about the cam, edelbrock 750.

This build reminds me a lot of my own build. I went ahead and had the bottom of the car and inside the trunk area sprayed with LINEX. Was pretty reasonable and the sound difference is amazing.

I finally decided upload the pictures I had left of my 81. This is what i'm trying to get back to, this is where the frame and a good portion of other parts came from.

I wanted to stick to the same color, I think I got close. I love this color just as much.
