  • Stripes and Decals for 85 - 87 442s

Hey guy's looking for some help. I currently own a 1987 black 442 with 39k original miles. It's a all original garage queen, the way I like em. The car has never been repainted and original paint and decals are still fresh with no sun fade or cracking. The front and rear bumper stripes on this car had a few bumps and scrapes through out the years and was the only eye sore on the car. I removed them and replaced them with the Pheonix Graphix decals. They looked and matched great in the garage but the minute I pulled the car out in the sun light there replacement decals become bright gold? almost a yellowish tint?? It made me sick looking at it. My question is besides finding a set of OEM bumper stripes does anybody have any other idea's what I can do to make a match in color? Any other decal companies that match better? I'm all ears guys?

I attached a photo, you can clearly see the mismatch in color.

    Nice car.
Was just at Wauconda cruise night.
No one makes the correct stripes, only two choices are NOS or paint to match.
I have a complete set of NOS stripes for a black car.

Really you where at the cruise nite here in Wauconda? I was gonna bring my 442 but left work to late and knew I'd be tuck out in the boonies so I just attended the cruise by foot instead, great show! great weather! ... Anyway I have an update on the bumper decals. Chris in customer service at Pheonix Graphix went over and beyond to keep my business and correct this problem. The color staff at P.G reviewed there original decal kit they have inventoried for a 1985 to 87 442 and resent me another set of bumper decals in a updated color, Guy's I cant tell you how happy I am, and i'm fricken picky!!.. there almost a perfect match to my originals! These guys at Pheonix hit a home rum and im certainly pleased with the results. Still much much cheaper than NOS thats for sure. Thanks for your help and input!! I take it your local, hopefully we can meet at next years Wauconda cruise nites!! Look forward to it. Check out the photo below!

Were they NOS ones? They look like it.
        Did they have 3M backing?

These are the bumper stripes from Pheonix Graphix. Like i mentioned in my first post with a photo the color was off in the first set and the second set P.H sent out was rite on the money in color match and dimensions!! Very pleased. I see no need to spend premium money for a OEM set unless you where completing a top notch restoration and in need of a full original decal kit. Check out the photo, this is how there sent out from Pheonix, shaped and cut to size. Ready to install!!
And yes they had 3M backing paper..
