  • Rocker panel trim

Hey guys I can use some help here, I am trying to re-install the front chrome rocker panel on my Cutlass and for some reason the clips don't lock into place in the fender. I purchased new clips from GM which are the same P/N as the ones that were on the car. It looks like the piece that goes through the panel is not long enough to go through and lock in place. The part number on the new and old clips is 22510423 LH. I'm wondering if they changed the way these mount?

    Thanks,

Did you save your old ones?
There is a dowel pin that goes through the middle of the clip to expand the prongs so it grabs the fender. I don't have any of these clips NOS so I don't know if GM included those as well. I would just use hardware to secure them to the fender if your missing the small dowel pins.

      88,

Thanks but there were no dowl pins on the old one. I still have them but when I pulled them out the prongs broke. On the mounting side there was a solid post and then prongs at the end.The new ones are just prongs on the side that goes through the fender and a solid rod on the other side. My only thought would be to run a screw through the prongs into the solid side which the head of the screw would seperate the prongs and hold the piece in place.

      Any other thoughts?

      Thanks,
      LJAM

that solid post is the dowel pin
You're supposed to push that dowel pin through to spread the prongs on the backside of the fender when you have it mounted up to the fender.
You'll notice on your old one that the prongs used to surround that dowel pin. The dowel is actually removable...
