  • correct paint dimensions 85-87 442?

I am in the process of getting a few quotes to have my 85' 442 painted & I want to paint it back to the two tone stock paint scheme. My question is where could I find the correct dimensions of where to have the two tone split?

More specifically, where do I want that to happen if I install A stripe kit from Phoenix graphics? I have read numerous places that they are clear where the original stripe kits had the body color on them.

If I am spending the kind of money that I am planning on I would like to get this as close as possible to the factory appearance.

A few more details....my 442 was originally grey & I have chosen to paint it white which was only available in 85...when I bought the car is had a good rust free body but was a basket case besides that. I have replaced most of the interior, the carpet, all of the seals, & I bought 2 sets of 15" rims to end up with one decent set of stock ssIII's which just got some new rubber.

Any dimensions or links are appreciated...I would like to have the car into a body shop before the end of march. THANKS

First center the stripes on the bumper covers, then run a piece of tape from bumper to bumper keeping level with the lower body line.
Then run a 5mm strip of tape below that. This will be the lower body color stripe
Now you can lay your Gray down.
The gray should run about 1/2" above the body line.
Use a photo to eyeball it since the factory was never exact about laying out the stripes.

Thank you. That info is appreciated...I remember a post a few years back on GBF where you were considering making a limited # of repro sets to better specs. Did it end up being a lot more trouble than it was worth?

No, still need an NOS blue and NOS burgundy stripe before I start.
        I'm in no hurry...
Price will be pretty much on par with NOS stripes, not a cheap endeavor.

Thanks...I had a auto body guy stop by tonight to get me an estimate. He is going to get paint prices & get me a quote...I am guessing it is going to cost me some serious cash! I have the car half stripped down but I just don't have the time to go much further myself...I asked for a price to finish all of the body work, align all panels, disassemble, & paint....

Of course I had to have 2 tone, I'm also going to have the deck lid & antenna hole welded over I think
..I want to stay close to original appearance besides a few minor things.

I suppose that if it's going to be done I better have it done correctly the first time.
