Does anyone have experience with installing and using a ratchet shifter such as a B&M Quicksilver? I would prefer putting in a Dual Gate 2, but they are hard to find, and expensive. Just looking at some options for later, after the Olds is running.

I had one in my '84 Hurst Olds however someone had secured it to the factory Lightning Rods plate. If you were to install one I would assume you would need to mount it on a plate to rase it up a bit and secure to a thicker piece of metal for stability.

I saw a write up where they did just that...mounted the shifter on a plate, secured to the regular mounts. Looks like it would fit, but I would probably have to use the top plate that came with the shifter. If I could figure out a way to keep the stock plate, I'd go that route, but the shifter looks like it sits too high for that. BTW, do you recall whether the column interlock linkage was hooked up or not? I would want to keep the interlock.

The column lock was not hooked up on my '84 but I don't see why it can't be done because ultimately that is connected to the shift lever on the trans.

I had a megashifter in my 86, used the thickest piece of metal from the hardware store and bolted it to the factory shifter brackets on the trans hump, I then drilled holes and bolted the shifter to that plate and screwed the aftermarket top plate into the console like the L rods do. Looks sweet but with no permanent modifications. I also used the cable that came with the shifter and also used both of the trans selector brackets (the OEM one and the specified one for the shifter, I put the aftermarket one on first, then the OEM one and bolted them to the trans like normal so I had their good cable and my original column lock/reverse lights.
