  • vin 9 307???

I recently bought a 1985 442 without the original engine. I did buy a 70/71 350 rocket that will need rebuilt at the same time… I would like to rebuild that 350 eventually & spend some cash getting all the hardcore horsepower goodies… I am thinking that may be a few years down the road before I have the time & money to complete that rebuild the way I am envisioning it… Recently, I bought a vin 9 307 out of an 86' 442…the engine is complete minus one exhaust manifold & appears {haven't opened her up yet} to be a lower mileage engine… I think I could Reseal the 307 & use it in my 442 with a lot less time & money involved…

So here is my opinion ? ?…should I go with the 307 for now & do a Nice Build on the 350 Or would I be better off cleaning up that 350 & slapping it in without completely reWorking it? I've read that you can't do much additional performance wise to the 307s… I'm not going for out of control Power, but I don't want a grocery getter…Thanks in advance…

I would go with 307 to keep original. If thats the route you want to go but I think get more out of 350.

As the old saying goes, do it right or do it twice.
Use the 307 and build the 350 right... otherwise you're just wasting money and you'll never get the 350 built with it in the car.

I might be parting with my 85 442 motor and tranny if interested.
