What color 442/ H/O do you think would look better with a stainless roof, white or black?

Hi,

A few days ago someone posted a message about a 1980 442 W30 with the stainless steel roof that was for sale on eBay, I went back and the post was gone. I think it was you who posted that. I ended up buying that car and now I am looking for information about the stainless steel roof. Can you help me figuring out what years it was an option and if anyone know if it was ever installed on a 442. The Hurst/Olds emblems seem to be very odd, as for the rest of the car it seems pretty much original.

Was accidently deleted when trying to remove a post. The stainless roof only came on a few Crimson colored 1980 Cutlass Supremes made in Canada, it might have been an aftermarket option by a dealer to make a 'Cutlass Extreme'??? I sold a 307 to a guy a year ago who had one so I know of 5 cars that exist so far with 3 of them being Chrimson colored Supremes and two being Calais like your 1980 442. My take is that it was added by a dealer in Quebec and possibly that same dealer added the stainless roof to your car as well.
However it is definately not factory and it isn't a Hurst Olds, someone just added the emblems at a later date with the stainless roof. Probably someone was trying to pass off something that was supposedly rare to make an extra buck???

Thanks for the reply, do you have any contact information for the others that have the stainless steel roof opyion. Any other information you or anyone else out there might have would be appreciate. I find the lack of information interesting and would like to research it more. I agree that it is not a Hurst/Olds but it does look cool and will at least have a few guys ask some questions.

There is one of these Cutlass' with the stainless roof near me.
I have seen it a few times in my neighbourhood (west end of Ottawa).
I'll try to catch the guy and ask him about his ride next time

My sister-in-law bought a blue 1980 Cutlass Calais with the stainless steel band across the roof. She bought it new from Story Olds in Lansing Michigan. I don't know if the dealer put it on, but I think they did.

BTW, the car looked phenomenal.

I've also seen a blue one with the chrome and a crimson one both here in SE Ohio but its been along time ago sometime in the early ninety's

i have one in alberta the crimson colour with the stainless steel roof. mine came with a 305

What's the badge say on the sail panel?
These cars were called different names... "Edge", "Extreme" are a couple...

here is a pic of one. this one has the GOG (Grand Olds Gang) badge. there was also a goldish one at the 09 OCA nats. seemed to me like a dealer option mostly.
