  • More than 3001 83 H/O's ???

Just decoded a VIN tag on an 83 H/O I was looking at and it is not in the registry. The person with the registry stated that it was produced about 3 months after the last produced car which was produced in March of 1983.

If anyone has an 83 H/O with the VIN ending greater than 455xxx please let me know. The car I looked at was 513xxx and we are speculating that some were probably produced after the fact due to demand.

There is a guy on classicoldsmobile.com that can help, search for the thread and shoot him an email. There are supposedly around 245 cars with the medium sand gray interior, I think it's higher than that, I have been seeing allot of H/O's for sale lately with that color interior.

        difference between 9 and y

my vin has a y instead of a nine. am i correct in understanding that is the difference in the 307 and the 350? is that also what makes it the hurst olds?
the sequence number in mine is 5265xx.

81-88 Cutlasses never came with a 350, a VIN 9 car is a higher output 307 that came in 83-87 Hurst Olds/442, well not much more higher... try 40 points, and 83-85 was 10 points more than 86-87 but it was specialized with higher rate valve springs, larger balancer, dual exhaust and many other mods that aren't too serious.
I wouldn't worry about it since the 307 is only good for boat anchors, it's only a way to find out if your car is a Hurst or a 442.

I think that the rear end ratio was more high performance. I think it was a 3.73 and the difference in horsepower between a "Y" and "9" was 40.

                  Vin Y 307's had 140hp, and the vin 9 307's came with 180hp.

Update on this VIN number debockle, turns out the body tag numbers do not match the VIN as I thought they did, all I had was a photo of the body tag and assumed that was the VIN as well.
So there are not more than 3001 of these cars built...

I've always wondered about the production #s on some of these cars. At least with the 83/84 Hurst their is a registry. I wish that there was a 442 registry!
