  • lighting rod shifters?

Is there anyway to tell if its a 3 speed or 4 speed for just looking at the 3 shifters?

It's a 4 speed auto. First, second, third and OD. First shifter has Park, Reverse, OD and Drive.

Incorrect... he asked by looking at them, you also forgot neutral.

A three speed will have taller rods and the cam will stick out on the right about 1.5" to allow for a 4th staging rod to be attached.

Notice the shifter on the left has taller rods and you can see the cam sticking out to mount the staging rod. Staging rods are very rare and they were bought seperately and added on later.
Also, there will be a bracket added on near the selector gate to mount a reverse lockout switch I believe and the selector lever will have two prongs on top to mount an indicator for the console indicator.

The shifter on the right is a 4 speed.

Its a 4 speed, one simple way to tell is for yourself or the seller etc.. to count the shift positions...
              34 N R P
              23
              12

Also, the first lever will go back an extra position past the other rods, 4 speeds will all line up when the shifter is in 1st gear wheras both 3 and 4 speeds will have all the rods line up in 3rd gear.

Three speed with the staging rod added, all three speeds have the extension on the cam sticking out on the drivers side to add a staging rod and the rods are taller.
