My plans were to either find a rust free shell and re-body it, or just use it as a driver. Changed my mind a few months later and sold it to a guy by Yankton for $3500. I see the car show up on craigslist again, maybe a month ago, but the listing is down now. Here is a link to the car on olds central:

I sure hope that nobody is naive enough to give $6K for it.
I went and looked at it and he told me 3000 also. I didnt need it bad enough for that. I would have bought it till looked underneith it. I sure hope he dont find a sucker and con them into buyin it for that money

I live by sf too. You have prob seen my 87 around.

I pitty the guy that bought it. I went and looked at it i think he painted it himself i have seen it forsale before. He told me he wanted $3500 for it. I was intersted till i looked underneith it and seen alll the expanding foam. It was too big of a pos for me to considered at that price. I offered him $1500 for it cause thats about all its worth in parts. That car is only gonna look good for a year tops then all the rust is gonna come right back.

Rebody it, Hursts are getting harder to find.
With the amout of reproduction parts in the works right now a restoration is very feasible.
The O is offset on the left side and the Z is offset on the right.
If you need a trans call CK Performance, chances are any trans you find is going to need a rebuild.

Couldnt really see much on the tag it was faded and covered with under coating. But it did have O about 3/8" tall on the far left side. I havent seen many trans tags to know what im lookin for. Thats why i was wondering if the O was on one side and the Z on the other.

I prob wont get it cause he thinks its still worth 3k. But if he acepts my offer i would prob part the car out so i can get the right trans for my 85 442. Sadly thats about all the car is worth i have never seen so much expanding foam and mud in one car.

1983 Hurst Trans tags are blue
1984 Hurst trans tags are yellow

Look at the digits stamped in the tag, it should say something like

    048 - 83 2 OZ 1191
Build date, year, shift, code, sequence

Couple more questions. I went and looked at the car and wow its a rusty pos i hope someone dont buy it and think they got somthin. Its basically a amatuer paint job over expaning foam and mud to hide all the rust. Its in such bad shape i wouldnt have had a prob parting it out. It didnt have much for otions other then t tops. No air shocks and crank windows. Interior was driver quality header panel emblem was shot spoiler was ruined.

The OZ tag on the trans is the O on one side and the Z on the other? I couldnt see it cause they undercoated over all the rust and half the tag was covered. I could see an O on the left side a yellow tag.

I my best guess i would say its a $1500 parts car. Whats your opinions ?

In 83 the pulley set was the same as the vin Y, that was changed on the later 442's you could also look on the block , driver side behind the ps pump is a flat section on the block almost the size of a dog tag, a little longer and a little thinner will be the vin stamped on that area should match the vin plate by the windsheild

Look for a large wide harmonic balancer like 350s and 455s and an OZ code on the trans tag.
Thats about it from a visual standpoint besided 5A heads which doesnt tell you much.

started a topic 83 Hurst olds engine ?s

    83 Hurst olds engine ?s

Lookin at buying a 83 hurst need some info on the engine like block number, head number, and intake number want to make sure its the original engine.

Also trans id info would be good too.

Is it 3161 block with 5a heads? Or the vin 9 different?

    thanks
