  • 1983 Hurst/Olds Progess Report

Well, both my resources have been in short supply. Time and money, thats what it takes. Still, it hasn't ben too bad for a year. Pulled the 307 and trans, I am going to rebuild them once I have completed the car, but for now I would like to enjoy the car on the road, so I dropped in a crate 350 and electronic transmission. More in parts and adaptation then I anticipated, but happy with the results. Got some paint stripped and had a look at the rot, temporary primer while mechanical was being taken care of, got a new decal kit and repro one piece spoiler waiting in the wings. Gonna pull the interior and cut out all the rust - gonna make it pretty again.

Good luck with the project, sucks theres no Olds under the hood though, thats my biggest pet peve with Cutlasses. It would have been easier to put in an Olds 350, everything bolts right up from the 307, even the exhaust manifolds.

I had requested an Olds 350. Unfortunately I had the worst parts guy ever. I lost so much time with my body guy as it was, and since I plan to rebuild the 307 for stock purposes anyways, I thought oh well. It'll get me down the road

I bought a new floor kit on line, and I am going to buy new color matched skins for the front and rear seats. When I get it in to my body guy, we're gonna pull the seats and floor while he gets to work. Gonna strip the seats down to metal frames, rebat, and recover them.

The interior wasn't horrible, but you know those "T" tops always leak so there is a mildew smell. Also the previous owner had removed the original carb and just stored it on the floor in the back - the carpet is hopelessly stained. Carpet out will give us a chance to inspect the floor anyways.

Other than that, a few reproduction bezels (the piece around the rods is cracked) and the ashtray cover. Also the guide plate for the rods is worn - the main shifter gets stuck in 2.

I guess I'll see soon enough, but do you know if there is a sound deadener / heat sheild between the carpet and the metal floor?

The carpet is rubber backed with jute padding.
ACC sells the correct color with rubber backing.
Highway Stars aka nos4gn is having a sale I believe till the end of the year.
