Hi, I joined to do a little research. I am trying to decide between a 1980 Cutlass and an 85 Mustang. I owned a 1980 gray Cutlass in high school and had a lot of fun in it, however, I have always loved the 85 Mustang.

Just wondering what the curb weight of an 80 Cutlass 2 door was? Can't seem to find it on google. I found an 80 Cutlass in great shape but it has a 260 so I would want to replace the engine. In the end this would cost more than the 85 GT that has the 302. I still have a soft spot for the Cutlass because of the memories and I love that unique 1980 front end. But the Mustang maybe more fun without the work of switching motors.

I assume the Cutlass is heavier?

    Welcome to the site!
I had a '96 Mustang as a beater once, the 80s look much better though.
I am bias towards the Cutlass for obvious reasons but around where I live Mustangs are everywhere and most that drive them fit a douchebag cocky toughguy stereotype and when the pull up next to me they think their at the track all of a sudden... I absolutely hate Mustangs because of it now but to each their own.
The 80 442 is my favorite of the 78-80 generation, black/gold wit black vinyl interior is the combo Id go with.
The curb weight will vary with options but they'er roughly 3400lbs.

I vote for................the 80 Cutlass!......assuming both are in similar mechanical condition & without doin any work to either, the Mustang would be the quicker vehicle....Until a fresh 350 Olds Rocket drops In the Cutty....BOOM!

I'm trying to convince my wife to let me get both but I doubt I will win that fight.
I am having a hard time deciding, some of my best memories as a young guy were in a charcoal grey 1980 Cutlass. But an all original 85 GT 5 speed would be a lot of fun.
The Mustang is a one owner silver GT with 71000 miles, all original. The Cutlass is a Florida car with 100,000 miles, black, console shift with what looks like leather and all original as well. The Cutlass is a $1000 cheaper but it has the 260. I would have to buy a 350, headers, dual exhaust and cragar rims and tires. This could set me back $3000+ making the Cutlass more expensive. But it might be cheaper to buy this car already set up...

Wow, that is a nice car.
That mustang definately sounds fun to drive as well.
          Good luck on your decision.

Thats a lot of money for a 80's cutlass. What do you want to do with the car? Weekend car, daily driver, other? I think the 81 to 88 G bodys look better than the 80. I also like the newer mustangs, 2008 body style are nice I forgot what year they strated and stoped with this body style. I know I dont like what they did with the rear and front of the car when they gave this car a face lift, they made the car look like ****.

Buy the Mustang for the Wife as a surprise to her, then get the Cutlass for yourself!
