  • What can make a grown man want to cry?

Not sure where to put this please move it if it’s in the wrong place.
I’m not sure how bad this would have been in my dodge Caravan but I think that the personal damage to me would have been worse. I actually walked away with no major injuries although tonight I’m feeling a little stiff and sore.
All started on my way home from work last night. I was in the left lane on a 4 lane street and had a friend from work behind me on his way home also. I passed this car in the right lane that seemed to be slowing down for some reason and then about a ΒΌ mile down the road the next thing I know I’m getting run into in the rear. I also heard a car engine revving and in the meantime I was pushed into the back of a cargo van then spun 90 deg in the center of the road. After the cars broke away the other car shot across the right lane and ran off the road into the grass. My friend who was behind me said that the guy who we passed came up from behind him in the right lane and then cut him off in the left lane. When he hit his brakes to avoid hitting him, the other car seemed to hit the gas then ran into me. He said he never saw the brake lights on the guy’s car go on until he hit the grass.
When I figured everything out and got out to look at the car all I could say was “my car my beautiful F’ing car”. I’m still waiting for the police report to see if the guy was drunk or if he had a heart attack. I saw the guy out walking around his car but he never came by to talk to any of the other drivers (there was a van and another car in front of the van that were involved also). The paramedics that arrived on the scene convinced me to take an ambulance to the hospital but when the first ambulance pulled up one of the other paramedics said they needed it for the other guy because he was having chest pains. I told the paramedic to bring the guy over to me and I’ll take care of all his pains for him!
As everyone keeps telling me I should be glad I was not seriously hurt but I can’t seem to take any consolation in that. I know I’ll never get what this car was worth and now need to start looking for another Cutlass.
I had 2 more weeks before I was going to store it for the winter and now will have to tear it down for parts. I’ll be listing the parts as soon as I can but I can say for sure the rims are ok and 3 of the tires are also ok. I just bought the rims and tires this July so the really don’t have any miles on them. Anyone looking for parts off an 87 Cutlass Salon let me know.

Sorry for rambling on here but I’m just so pissed right now!!

Wow .....and I thought I had the luck. My 86 442 got rear ended leaving a car show last month. I need a back bumper but it looks as if yours is pretty much gone....what about the left tail light. Glad your ok.....I would have cried on the spot.

      Sergio,
Left tail light is in good driver condition. No major scratches that I recall. Here's the best picture I have of it.

I agree. Glads you are ok. Cars can be replaced but you can't.

              New Toy!!!!

Well I couldn't take not having a car so I went out and got this 442 to replace the Salon. I've been working with the other guy's insurance company (State Farm), and they're real close to the total amount I had into the Salon. They classified it as a classic car which brought up the value. Now were just negotiating about some of the additions. Hopefully this all works out.

                  Sweet score!
That is what mine looked like new... I'm doing a frame off on mine with all original GM parts.
I have about 90% of the parts for the car new from GM besides hardware, body and glass.
Where did you find such a nice car?

                      Thanks everyone,

I actually found this on Craigslist Chicago a few weeks ago after driving all around Illinois and Indiana looking at crap cars that everyone said were in fantastic condition. They even had pictures that looked great, but once I saw the cars in person it was a whole different story.

It needs a little work on it, and now that it's getting close to storing it I will have time to work on it. Would have rather had the burgandy interior but I think I'll get used to the light blue. do they call it blue or grey?

I actually took it to work today just to get it out since the guy had it sitting for a long time and the whole time I kept looking all around to make sure no one was near me. Especially when I went past the spot where the Salon was totaled. I can still hear and see the whole thing (makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck).

                      Mike,
I'm in Niles, where are you at?

                      Thanks,
                      LJAM

The interior you have is a medium dark gray, it's probably faded a little to give it that bluish hue. I've got some NOS fabric and it looks very different than what's in my car right now.
UV light fades lighter colors quicker since they attract UV light more.
